It’s Let’s Talk Tuesday guys! Today we are going to do something a little different and talk about voting! The next Presidential election is only 70 days away! It is so important that you cast your vote on November 3rd. I can’t tell you who to vote for, but I can help you become an informed voter. All of the information I am about to talk about is for Sangamon County residents only and is being pulled straight from the Sangamon County Clerk’s website (https://www.sangamoncountyclerk.com/Default.aspx) which you can check out for yourself.

You just need to input your first name, last name, date of birth, and zip code. Please note the last day to check before the next presidential election is October 18th, as the portal will close at 11:59 pm that day.
Where and How to register to vote
Where : Sangamon County Election Office
Address: 200 S. 9th Street, Room 105 of the County Building
Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday.

Necessary documentation: Two forms of identification are required to become registered. One must show your name and current address. The second form must show your name.
These forms of identification shall include, but not limited to:
Social Security Card
Student I.D. Card
State I.D. Card
When to register to Vote
Registration is OPEN year round except, 27 days prior to an election and 2 days after an election. FOR THE NOVEMBER 3RD GENERAL ELECTION TUESDAY OCTOBER 6TH is the last day to register to vote before the grace period begins.
What’s grace period registration and voting?
Grace period registration lets you register to vote or change your address after the close of regular voter registration and even register the same day as the election. During this period, you can only register to vote or change your address in person in the Sangamon County Election office or on election day at your polling place. After registering, you must vote that same day.
Grace Period Registration and Voting starts Wednesday October 7th and ends Tuesday November 3rd.

IF YOU DO NOT RECEIVE A NOTICE WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF MAILING OR DELIVERING, CALL THE COUNTY CLERK AT (217) 753-8683
YOUR RIGHTS AS A VOTER
You have the right to
- Cast your ballot in a non-disruptive atmosphere free of interference
- Protect the secrecy of your ballot
- Request assistance in voting, if needed
- Receive a new ballot if you make a mistake or change your mind (prior to it being deposited into the ballot box)
- Have your ballot counted fairly and impartially
- Vote if in line by 7:00 p.m.
- Cast a provisional ballot under certain circumstances
- Cast a Federal Offices Only ballot, in federal elections, if you have moved within Sangamon County MORE than 30 days prior to the election and failed to re-register.
